Released in 2001 the HBO Mini-Series – Band of Brothers – was an international hit sensation, that helped to draw attention to viewers around the world of the role that the men of 101st Airborne Division and in particular Easy Company played during the Second World War.
It was certainly one factor which helped further ignite my own desire and passion (or as my wife may say, obsession) to learn all I could about the Second World War and help do my own small part in keeping this period of history alive for future generations.
In this WW2 Nation Podcast episode, we had the opportunity to go behind the scenes looking at the making of Band of Brothers with one of the Series’ writers, John Orloff.

John who wrote Episode Two: Day of Days and Episode Nine: Why We Fight, tells us all about how it came together, what it was like to be part of this life-changing series and much more.
We also speak with John about the exciting new WW2 TV Series he is currently working on with Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks which will be focusing on the battle for the skies during the Second World War from part of the US Eighth Airforce’s perspective – The Bloody 100th – which is based on aspects of Donald L Miller’s book Masters of the Air.

We hope you found this episode of interest. A big thank you for listening and to John for speaking with us about his experiences working behind the scenes and writing parts of the Band of Brothers Series. We will be catching up with John again in due course to talk to him more about his new series focusing on an element of the Mighty Eighth during the War. Currently codenamed Masters of the Air, the working title is yet to be officially released, but I for one cannot wait to hear more about it and see the final results of this labour of love by the team.
