Returning our attentions back south again following our trip to the Northern Shoulder (which you can Read Here), Day Four was our final day with our excellent guide Michel Baert and it was one both Ross and I had been looking forward to as we were going to be learning more about the British involvement in the Battle of the Bulge. In particular we would be focusing on the 6th Airborne Division’s role in the January counter-offensive and the fierce 3 day battle for the village of Bure.
It didn’t start exactly as intended as Ross managed to miss his alarm and consequently overslept. So it was something of a later start to the day. But nonetheless we eventually made it!
Day Four: The British Involvement in the Battle of the Bulge – 6th Airborne Division
I hope you enjoyed our highlights from Day Four of our trip Exploring the Ardennes. Our 3rd Vlog from this trip will be following this Friday.
The Photo Journal of Day Five, our final day in Belgium, sees us exploring Bastogne and the story of Renee Lemaire (the Angel of Bastogne), one of the nurses trapped inside the town during the siege. We also visit the Mardasson Memorial and Bastogne War Museum.
If you wish to find out more about the Battle for Bure you can do so by Clicking Here, which is an interesting first hand account by Major Jack Watson of his experiences in Bure with the 13th Parachute Battalion.
