A few months ago (as you may have seen from my previous post – Bomber Command: A Visit to Lincolnshire ) Ross and I spent three days in Lincolnshire looking at the county’s aviation history and its connection with Bomber and Fighter Command as well as visiting Lancaster Just Jane at East Kirkby.
Split into two posts, what follows is our photo highlights from Day One and Two of this incredible trip exploring Bomber County. This included filming at the Petwood Hotel, visiting RAF Metheringham, RAF Digby’s 1940’s Operations Room, RAF Woodhall Spa and also meeting a WW2 veteran C-47 Dakota.
The highlights from our Third and final day of exploring bomber county in June will follow very shortly, this includes a personal tour of the former RAF Bomber Command base of East Kirkby as well as going on board AVRO Lancaster (NX611), Just Jane.
Anyone interested in exploring Lincolnshire and wanting to learn more about the county’s rich aviation history and connection with Bomber Command during WW2, I highly recommend Patrick Otter’s book on ‘Lincolnshire Airfields in the Second World War.’ This was a fascinating read and incredibly useful for planning and researching our trips.
The Vlog from this 3-day trip will be coming out during October, until then though, why not enjoy our last Vlog from Lincolnshire where we returned to explore a section in the woods of the ( now abandoned & dilapidated ) former No.1 Communal site of RAF Woodall Spa, the International Bomber Command Centre and Petwood Hotel.
